Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: 2 Post-Credits Scenes Explained

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ? now playing in cinemas around the world ? ends with the expected words ?Doctor Strange will return?. But that doesn?t just promise a third movie, the post-credits scene also teases the next adventure, as with all Marvel movies. There is only one significant scene in the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness credits, as the other is a continuation of a gag from the beginning of the film. Of course, I say significant with caveats, given that the first sequel completely ignores what was set up in the first Doctor Strange movie?s post-credits scene. Basically, we need to start paying less attention to Marvel credit teases, who really knows what?s going to happen in the intervening years by the time the next movie comes out.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Proceed at your own risk.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Mid-Credits Scene

The opening credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shows Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) calmly walking through the streets of New York City, before a portal opens behind him. As he turns around, he meets Charlize Theron, dressed in all purple. Comic book fans will know it?s Clea ? and she?s identified as such in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness credits. Strange and Clea have a history in the comics, but let?s finish the scene first.

Doctor Strange 2 review: The Multiverse of Madness is too much and too little

Clea (Theron) tells Strange that his actions caused an incursion ? this happens when two universes collide, which (mostly) leads to their mutual destruction, as explained by Reed Richards (John Krasinski) earlier in the film. Clea then asks for his help to avoid said incursion, asking him if he is scared. ?Not at all,? Strange replies, as he points to his third eye ? Agamotto?s all-seeing eye ? which he discovered at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

From the still-open portal behind Clea, we can tell she?s from the Dark Dimension. If your memory serves you well, you?ll recall that Strange fought Dormammu ? the villain of the first Doctor Strange movie ? in the Dark Dimension. Clea has ties to Dormammu ? she?s actually his niece in the Marvel comics. She is also Strange?s lover, eventual wife, and eventual Sorceress Supreme. It?ll be interesting to see what the MCU keeps, given that the movies have a history of tweaking characters and storylines.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness post-credits scene

The second and final scene that falls after the Doctor Strange credits in the Multiverse of Madness is akin to what Spider-Man: Homecoming did with Captain America (Chris Evans). While Cap talked about the value of patience, the new Doctor Strange movie chooses to poke fun at audiences, in a way poking fun at sticking around until the end.

We reunite with Pizza Poppa (Bruce Campbell, a favorite of director Sam Raimi), the guy who paid dearly for simply asking for the money he was owed for the puff pizza that America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) took off his cart . Pizza Poppa hits himself ever since, as Strange had magically commanded.

But it looks like the three weeks of punishment are over, as Poppa?s hands suddenly stop acting of their own accord. A relieved Pizza Poppa exclaims with joy and adds: ?It?s over! half looking at the camera. He?s not just talking about his pain, as you can see, but also about breaking the fourth wall.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in cinemas worldwide. In India, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
